Launching your SEO strategy requires a rigorous and detailed methodology.
Choosing your keywords is one of the first important steps in laying the ground-work for your action plan. Far from being a technical step, you must make tactical choices to quickly go up in the search engines.
How to Choose Keywords for SEO – 6 Tips?
Here are 6 tips that I’ve used for my blog and so will you.
1.Choosing The Main Keywords
The target keyword or query is an expression searched by users in their search engine.
The objective for you is therefore to appear in the search results to offer your blog, products or services. For this, your main keywords must be closely linked to your activity.
You need to reduce several variants such as:
- how to train a dog
- how to train your dog
- dog training tips
- dog obedience training
- obedience dog training
- dog training lessons
- puppy training tips
Then create an Excel file or use to list an exhaustive list of possibilities: between 5 and 30 keywords with their variations.
2.Choose LSI Keywords
LSI keywords (*) are rather ranking opportunities. In fact, in addition to selling your product, “dog training” for example, you could keep your current blog and cover topics related to your niche.
(*) LSI keywords (latent semantic indexing) are simply keywords related to the topic your page is about. They include not only just synonyms but other words that often occur when a certain topic is written about.
In this situation, it can be easier to rank those LSI keywords that you cover on your site, indirectly related to your commercial activity.
They also allow adaptation to the abbreviations used by users and must also relate to a specific page.
This sort of LSI keywords put around the same page will allow Google to analyze a “corpus” of keywords around a subject and rank your website at the top of the results.
How to Find Out Your LSI Keywords?
You can brainstorm your keyword ideas like me by using soovle.com to find out your seed keywords list.
How to Brainstorm Your LSI Keywords?
To enhance your keywords, consider enriching your lexical field with LSI keywords words. To do this, study the LSI keywords associated with your activity and place these expressions in your content.

3.Get inspired by your landing pages
Note: that each keyword must correspond to a specific URL (SEO landing page). This is the only way to get a good natural SEO.
In fact, Google’s algorithms will look at the richness of the content of your page, its URL and the relevant inbound links to judge your authority on the main keyword and position you more or less high in the SERPs.
You can therefore use the listing of your URLs and the themes of your existing pages to list your main keywords.
4.Use keywords generation tools
The other tip to complete your keywords research work is using keyword tools allow you to generate keywords and semantic fields.
Some examples about tools I used:
- Google Keywords Planner
- Keyword Finder
- …many more
5.Prioritize your keywords
After making an exhaustive list of keywords, prioritize those on which your efforts will focus.
To do this, determine the potential traffic they can generate for you. The volume of research on a keyword shows the appetite of users for the subject. The higher the volume, the more competitive the keyword.
An effective strategy is to rank your keywords with a large search volume, but within your reach.
What Keywords Should I Use?
My advice is choosing long tail keywords with 3 words or more, keyword difficulty (KD) around 35 or lower. These are expressions with low traffic and low competition.
When added together, this set of keywords will be more fruitful than a single keyword that is too popular.
6. Eat – Sleep – Research Keywords – Repeat
Do not freeze your list of keywords. Based on your analytics data, challenge your list to take opportunities on new trends or less competitive keywords.
Make a point every month to add or remove target expressions.
Remember that SEO is a long-term job that can bear fruit several months after the implementation of your actions. It is therefore essential to choose your keywords correctly and to stick to them during the first months of putting your site online.
Then, consider iterating regularly by auditing your site traffic and optimizing the content of your pages.
